1-1 Introduction
Welcome to OMRON Electronics LLC’s Remote PLC communications guide. The purpose of this guide is to allow remote programming monitoring, and diagnostics of OMRON PLCs. This is accomplished by connecting a modem (see parts list) to a computer running CX Programmer, SYSWIN or CPT software, and connecting a modem to the PLC. The user dials into the PLC using the programming software, and standard analog telephone lines. Once the computer is connected to the PLC via modem, the user can program the PLC as if he or she is sitting next to it!

2-2 Setting up SYSWIN on the Local Computer
1. Connect the standard RS232 cable from the modem to the computer.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. Run Syswin.
5. Select File | New Project.
6. Select the PLC type that you are using, including CPU if applicable.
7. Select MODEM in the Modem Option Window.
8. Click <OK>.
9. Select Project | Communications.
10.Enter the phone number of the remote PLC in the Phone Number box.
11.Select COM1 (or the COM port that the modem is connected to).
12.Select ASCII 7 bit Even parity 2 stop as the protocol.
13.Select 9600 as the Baud Rate (unless otherwise indicated by the PLC setup (See the section on setting up the PLC).
14.Click on Connect.
15.Once the Status shows Connected, click on Close.

*Note: A dedicated telephone line must be provided. It cannot be connected to a PBX (telephone system).
2-3 Setting up CPT on the Local Computer
1. Connect the standard RS232 cable from the modem to the computer.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. Run CPT.
5. Select File | New.
6. Select the PLC type, including the CPU.
7. Click OK.
8. Select On-Line | Communications Settings.
9. Under the Network Window, select Modem.
10.Click on Setup.
11.Click on Setup again.
12.Enter the phone number of the remote PLC in the Phone Number box.
13.Select COM1 (or the COM port that the modem is connected to).
14.Select 7 Data Bits, Even Parity, 2 Stop Bits.
15.Select 9600 as the Baud Rate (unless otherwise indicated by the PLC setup. See the section on setting up the PLC).

16.Click Modem.
17.Make the following settings:

18.Click OK.
19.Click OK again.
20.Click OK a third time.
21.Click Close.
22.Click On-Line | Go Online.
23.Click OK to connect.
24.If CPT does not connect, restart the computer and try again. (This may be necessary if the modem does not dial properly).

1. Connect the standard RS232 cable from the modem to the computer.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. Run CX Programmer.
5. Select File | New.
6. Name the Device if desired.
7. Select the PLC type, including the CPU (under Settings)
8. Verify that Sysmac Way is selected as the Network Type.
9. Click Settings next to Network Type.
10. Click the Modem tab.
11. Select the modem that you are using.
12. Click Configure.
13. Set the Maximum Speed to 9600.
14. Click the Connection tab.
15. Set Data Bits to 7, Parity to Even, and Stop Bits to 2.
16. Click OK.
17. Select the Country code for the United States of America. This step must be performed!
18. Enter the Phone Number.
19. If your dialing preferences need to be changed, (9 for an outside line, etc.)
20. Click on Configure next to Current Location.
21. Click OK.

1. Set the DIP switches on the 3G2A6-LK201-E Host Link as follows:

2. Attach the Host Link unit to the CPU (remove the plastic cover from the CPU).
3. Connect the cable from the modem to the smaller adapter cable, and connect the adapter cable to the Host Link unit.
4. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
5. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
6. The Ready LED should be lit on the Host Link unit.
7. The setup is now complete.

3-2 Setup for: C200HS Built in RS232 Port
C200HE/G/X Built in RS232 Port
CQM1 Built in RS232 Port
CQM1H Built in RS232 Port
IDSC Built in RS232 Port
1. Open the cover on the front of the PLC and turn DIP switch 5 ON.
2. Connect the cable from the modem to the built in RS232 port.
3. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
4. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
5. For CQM1, C200HS, and IDSC PLCs manufactured before July 1995, the baud rate for communications will be 2400 baud. For those made from July 1995 and later, the baud rate is 9600. To determine the manufacturing date, look at the 4-digit lot code on the side of the PLC. The Last 2 digits indicate the month and last digit of the year of manufacturing respectively. 1-9,XYZ for Jan-Dec (Ex: **75 is July 1995.) For CQM1H PLCs, the communications rate will be 9600 baud.
6. The setup is now complete.

3-3 Setup for: C200HE/G/X with COM02/04/05/06
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the RS232 port on the COM0_ card.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. If the software cannot communicate over the modem, the settings for the RS232 port may have been changed, and the port will have to be reconfigured. Using the PLC programming software, configure the port for Host Link, 9600 Baud, 7,E,2, Host Link unit 00. Consult the PLC manual and software manual for details on how to make this change. Make certain to cycle power to the PLC after changing the port configuration.
5. The setup is now complete.

3-4 Setup for: C200HS Peripheral Port + CPM1-CIF01
C200HE/G/X Peripheral Port + CPM1-CIF01
CQM1 Peripheral Port + CPM1-CIF01
IDSC Peripheral Port + CPM1-CIF01
1. Open the cover on the front of the PLC and turn DIP switch 5 ON.
2. Connect the CPM1-CIF01 to the Peripheral port on the PLC.
3. Connect the cable from the modem to the CPM1-CIF01.
4. Set the Host / NT switch on the CPM1-CIF01 to Host.
5. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
6. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.

3-5 Setup for: CPM1 + CPM1-CIF01
CPM1A + CPM1-CIF01
SRM1 Peripheral Port + CPM1-CIF01
1. Connect the CPM1-CIF01 to the Peripheral port on the PLC.
2. Connect the cable from the modem to the CPM1-CIF01.
3. Set the Host / NT switch on the CPM1-CIF01 to Host.
4. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
5. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
6. If the software cannot communicate over the modem, the settings for the peripheral port may have been changed, and the port will have to be reconfigured. Using the PLC programming software, configure the port for Host Link, 9600 Baud, 7,E,2, Host Link unit 00. Consult the PLC manual and software manual for details on how to make this change. Make certain to cycle power to the PLC after changing the port configuration.
6. The setup is now complete.

3-6 Setup for: SRM1 Built in RS232 Port
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the RS232 Port.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. If the software cannot communicate over the modem, the settings for the RS232 port may have been changed, and the port will have to be reconfigured. Using the PLC programming software, configure the port for Host Link, 9600 Baud, 7,E,2, Host Link unit 00. Consult the PLC manual and software manual for details on how to make this change. Make certain to cycle power to the PLC after changing the port configuration.

3-7 Setup for: CPM2A Built in RS232 Port
CPM2A + CPM1-CIF01
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the RS232 Port.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. Turn the DIP switch next to the RS232 port to On.
5. If the software cannot communicate over the modem, the settings for the RS232 port may have been changed, and the port will have to be reconfigured. Using the PLC programming software, configure the port for Host Link, 9600 Baud, 7, E, 2, Host Link unit 00. Consult the PLC manual and software manual for details on how to make this change. Make certain to cycle power to the PLC after changing the port configuration.
6. The setup is now complete.

3-8 Setup for: CS1_ Built in RS232 Port
CS1_ SCU_ _ or SCB_ _ RS232 Port
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the RS232 Port.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. For the Built in RS232 Port, Turn DIP switch 5 OFF on the CS1.
5. If the software cannot communicate over the modem, the settings for the RS232 port may have been changed, and the port will have to be reconfigured. Using the PLC programming software, configure the port for Host Link, 9600 Baud, 7,E,2, Host Link unit 00. Consult the PLC manual and software manual for details on how to make this change. Make certain to cycle power to the PLC after changing the port configuration.
6. The setup is now complete.

3-9 Setup for: CS1_ Peripheral Port + CS1W-CN226
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the CS1W-CN226 using the adapter specified in the cable diagrams section.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. On the CS1, Turn DIP switch 4 On.
5. If the software cannot communicate over the modem, the settings for the RS232 port may have been changed, and the port will have to be reconfigured. Using the PLC programming software, configure the port for Host Link, 9600 Baud, 7,E,2, Host Link unit 00. Consult the PLC manual and software manual for details on how to make this change. Make certain to cycle power to the PLC after changing the port configuration.
6. The setup is now complete.

3-10 Setup for: CQM1H Peripheral Port + CS1W-CN226
CQM1H Peripheral Port + CPM2C-CIF12
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the CS1W-CN226 using the adapter specified in the cable diagrams section or to the RS232 Port on the CPM2C-CIF12.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. On the CQM1H, Turn DIP switches 5 and 7 On.
5. The setup is now complete.

3-11 Setup for: CPM2C + CS1W-CN226
CPM2C + CPM2C-CIF01
1. Connect the cable from the modem to the CS1W-CN226 using the adapter specified in the cable diagrams section or to the RS232 Port on the CPM2C-CIF01.
2. Plug the dedicated* telephone line into the phone jack on the back of the modem closest to the edge of the modem (marked with a telephone jack icon).
3. Plug the modem power supply into an outlet, and into the modem.
4. On the CPM2C, turn on DIP switch 1. If the CPM2C was manufactured prior to August 1st of 2000, turn on DIP switches 1 and 2. To determine the manufacturing date, look at the 5-digit lot code on the side of the PLC. The first 2 digits indicate the day, the third digit indicates the month, and the fourth digit indicates the last digit of the year of manufacturing respectively. The 5th digit is not used. The months are coded 1-9,XYZ for Jan-Dec (Ex: 2180O indicates August 21st, 2000, the O is not used to determine the manufacturing date)
5. The setup is now complete.
